Kent Yalkut – President
Kent is an attorney and a native Las Crucen who serves the community in many ways. He has been an active member in the Las Cruces community serving on different boards and committees which have made it evident that his interest is in serving the local community. Yalkut was the Special Commissioner for Domestic Violence between 2004-2007; he is also a former board member of Goodwill Industries and is currently a board member of Tombaugh Elementary After School program as well as SNMDO. Serving on the board for SNMDO is important to him because he understands the burden of diabetes in this community and wants to help.
June Donohue – Executive Director
June began working for the Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach (SNMDO) in 2002 as Executive Director. This was shortly after the death of her daughter's fifty-eight year old mother-in-law due to complication caused by diabetes. After her death she had a desire to make a difference in diabetes awareness, prevention, and management and knew that working with SNMDO would give her that opportunity.
Susan Oliver – Program Director
Susan Oliver is the Board President for SNMDO. She has been on the board since 2004 and loves helping the community. She is currently employed at Mountain View Regional Medical Center as their Human Resources Coordinator. She has an extensive background in finding solutions and process flow improvement, along with multi-tasking. She loves spending time with her family and of course retail therapy!
Charlotte Reid – Board Member
Charlotte was born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She has been a nurse for 16 years and has spent eight of those years at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Se became a board member for SNMDO because she has seen what people go through at the end of life as a result of having diabetes and wants to make a difference. She is dedicated to educating others on diabetes and how to prevent it! She also loves watch her two daughters play basketball and ride horses.
David Reyes – Board Member
A recent transplant from Kansas City, KS, Dave found out he was a Type II Diabetic in 2003. He is able to control his diabetes with oral meds, proper diet and exercise. Married and father of three, David joined SNMDO to educate people and help them understand that you CAN live with Diabetes and enjoy a wonderful fruitful life!
Fred Schnieder – Board Member
Although Fred Schnieder was born in San Angelo, Texas he has lived the majority of his life in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Schneider is a Vietnam veteran and currently works at White Sands as a Service Officer. He is also an Agent Orange Type II Diabetic. What is unique about Fred is that he has a small black Chihuahua named “Sunshine” that helps him manage his diabetes by alerting him when his sugar is high or low. Schneider is an active board member of the SNMDO because he wants to educate the public about diabetes and how to prevent it by living a healthy active lifestyle.
Robin is from Philadelphia, Pa.. She's an independent author and inspiring journalist, attending New Mexico State University.
Robyn's beloved grandmother lost her battle to diabetes complications.
Robyn was diagnosed per-diabetic in 2009.
She's dedicated by bringing diabetes awareness into her community. She believes education, and healthy lifestyle change is the key to prevent diabetes. Robyn is enthusiastic about working with Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach.
